Carla Oviatt Warfield died peacefully at the age of 98 in Marietta, Georgia on January 26, 2025.
A dedicated teacher all her life, Carla began assisting by teaching introductory Math courses to returning GI’s after World War 2 at South Dakota State University while still an undergraduate herself. After graduation, she went on to teach Mathematics in Wessington, South Dakota, Lansing Community College in Michigan, Wheaton High School and Montgomery College in Maryland, College du Leman in Switzerland and Glen Elg Country Day School in Maryland.
In addition to earning a graduate degree from Michigan State University, she also participated in several honorary teaching and mathematics societies and was an ordained Deacon and Elder in the Presbyterian Church.
She is predeceased by her husbands, Vinson Oviatt and L. Clagett Warfield, her brother, Thomas Brown and daughter-in-law, Valerie Tompkins-Oviatt.
Carla is survived by her sons, Stephen (and wife Nancy) in Catharpin, Virginia and Mark in Marietta, Georgia, as well as granddaughters Lauren Oviatt (and husband Matthew Skillman) in Ellicott City, Maryland, Eileen in Woodbridge, Virginia, Alessandra (and husband Patrick Shahan) in Buford, Georgia and grandson Thad in Marietta, Georgia in addition to her great grandchildren Dex and Edward (Ted) Skillman in Ellicott City, Maryland.
A memorial service and reception will be held at Neelsville Presbyterian Church in Germantown, Maryland on Saturday, March 22nd at 1 PM with burial at a later date in the Goshen Cemetery in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
