Bobby Gene Thomas, 91, of Silver Spring, Maryland passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at MedStar Montgomery Hospital. He was surrounded by family and loved ones.
Born on October 5, 1934, in Kingston, Tennessee he was the son of the late Dewey Thomas and Iva Thomas.
Bobby had the best sense of humor. He loved to pick on anyone anywhere at any time. He was extremely quick witted and loved a good laugh. Bobby thoroughly enjoyed fishing. He and his buddy Bob Graybill always competed as to who caught the biggest fish. They went twice a year to Florida for their great competition even when Florida was experiencing a hurricane (Anna was HOT). Bobby was in the Army 25 years, retiring as a Master Seargent. He spent time at the White House working in Communications and Travel. No doubt he had stories, but he never said a word. The family attended Christmas parties at the White House and enjoyed the fireworks on the White House lawn. Bobby loved God and loved his church. He went to church each week, but when he got sick, he made sure he watched it on You Tube. He lost the love of his life in March 1983 and never got over that. Nice to say Bobby died with a smile on his face. He either saw his bride or saw God, whoever was able to greet him first.
He is survived by his son Donald Gene Thomas, daughter Anna Thomas Eastwood, son-in-law (son) Michael Dean Eastwood, brother Floyd Thomas, four grandchildren Kimberly (Kimmy) Eastwood Cowan, Jennifer (Jen) Eastwood Sheckels, Christopher (Chris) Thomas Eastwood, Ashley Rose Eastwood, five great-grandchildren, Aiden Michael Sheckels, Brady Robert Sheckels, Abigail Kelly Cowan, Caleb Fredrick Sheckels and Jayden Michael Cowan.
He is preceded in death by his wife Barbara Thomas, brother Virgil Thomas, father Dewey Thomas and mother Iva Thomas.
