Bernice Grace Wilkinson, age 96, passed away peacefully on Sunday July 17th.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, she was the only child of the late Alfred and Ethel Chambers. The memories she shared of her childhood were warm and happy. In Ohio, she was married and had three children, and in 1961 she relocated to Rockville, Maryland, where she raised her family with husband Robert Baker.
Active in the community, she served as a docent at Rockville Mansion along with being an avid bridge player. Throughout her life, she pursued many hobbies and interests, including swimming, gardening, reading, and playing the piano. She was also a very talented artist, with several paintings receiving honorable mentions in local art competitions. She enjoyed traveling and for many years looked forward to her annual trip to the Florida Gulf Coast with late (second) husband Thomas (Tom) Wilkinson.
In 1996, Bernice and Tom moved into Asbury Methodist Village where they enjoyed many years together in the Villas.
Bernice will be remembered for her intelligence, candor, and always curious mind. Throughout her life, she enjoyed learning new things and staying connected with family and friends.
She is preceded in death by husband Thomas Wilkinson and is survived by her three children: Bonnie Baker of Colorado, Robert Baker (and wife Pat) of Maryland, Betty Shaw (and husband Jim) of Ohio, three grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
A service will be held at the Guild Chapel in Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg, MD on Thursday, July 28th at 11:00 a.m. with a luncheon to follow. Interment will be at Knollwood Cemetery in Mayfield Heights, Ohio at a future date.
