Anita O'Neil Obituary

Anita Wiesner Campitell O’Neil (91) left our world peacefully after a short illness on February 2nd, 2024, while surrounded by family at the Dove Hospice house in Westminster Maryland.  She will be very missed by family, friends and everyone that knew and loved her deeply.  She was predeceased by her husband's Joseph P. Campitell (16 years) and Paul T. O’Neil (16 years) as well as her son Martin J Campitell.

Mrs. C (as she was affectionately known by many children in Olney in the 70’s) was born in Hays, Kansas in 1932.  She was the youngest of 6 children born to Joseph and Anna Wiesner.  She went to the University of Michigan to study and graduate with an Art degree after which she worked for Hallmark Cards in Kansas City.  She later joined a friend in Washington DC to get her degree in Education and started teaching at Leeland Jr. High School where she met and married Joseph Campitell.  After his death, Anita to raised her (4) children with much patience, love and grace.  She was fortunate and found love again many years later and married Paul T. O’Neil.  She eventually became a technical illustrator at COMSAT (now Lockheed Martin).

Anita is survived by three of her children, JoAnne M Nelson of Sykesville, Anthony J Campitell and his wife Chrissy of Mt. Airy MD and John Campitell and his wife Connie of Hedgesville, WV.  She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren Jessica Payne (DJ), Christina Campitell, Kasey Bly (Brady), Joseph Nelson, Nicholas Campitell, Angela Phillips (Colin), Anthony Nelson, Christopher Campitell (Caitlin), Rose Campitell and John Jr. Campitell as well as four great grandchildren, Calhoun Bly, Sawyer, Elliott and Lennon Payne and many nieces and nephews.

Anita was a gentle, Loving, and graceful soul.  She always had a smile and loved to socialize with her many friends and family.   She could be the life of the party at times during family vacations and parties, always willing to play with the kids or attempt splashing in the waves.  She had a sharp wit and a ready laugh and was always asking where she could help if you needed it.  She loved to play cards with her family and friends and took the games very seriously and carried cards and deck shufflers with her to gatherings to entice people to play.  She enjoyed spending time in her garden and feeding the animals and birds in the backyard – always worried that they weren’t warm enough in Winter.   Most of all she had a deep abiding love of her faith and was a prayer warrior to all who knew her.  She guided many to understand the love and salvation that comes from a dedication to Christ.
