Marty was a wonderful friend, always laughing, joking, happy.  A total joy to be with and around.  Our hearts are filled with sadness for Sissy and his entire family.  He will be missed by so many.

After reading this obituary of Marty, I am so very sorry. I have known Marty since our days in school. May I expressed had I known he and the family were so close by in Olney, I live in Rockville/Manor Club. Of all the Classes of the 50's of Richard Montgomery HS events and gathering we had no idea Marty was close by and we missed him. May he rest in Peace and I hope to meet his family at Oakdale. He will be missed.

Dear Sissy & Family,

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Marty.  He will always be in your hearts.  He was a special man with his humor.  He could makes us laugh.  I wish I could take the pain away for you all.  Give yourselves to grieve.  God Bless.

Marty and I were friends from the 8th grade, until his passing.  He and I went into the Marine Corp together, went through boot camp and ITR.  We lost touch for a short time, until we both went on the police department in Montgomery County.  I haven't seen him since 1991, but when we did  get together to watch Redskin games and drink a few beers.  As the years went by I always considered him a close friend, and thought of him often always with good thoughts.

I am so sorry for your loss.  Brother, Syd Cornwell, talked about Mayes often and when he did he always had a smile on his face.  Lots of stories.  So Brother will greet him in heaven and say "where've you been Mayes."

So sorry to hear that Marty is gone. Haven't seen him for years, but he did contact me when Denny died.

I’ve never gotten in an elevator without looking to see if Mr Mayes worked on it. He always had room for “one more” even though he had so many. Remembering fondly the rides were n the el Camino and how much you each have touched my life. Love to you all.
