My sincere condolences to Matt's family. He was one of my best teachers at High Point High School (class of 1968). His parents were my grandmother's next door neighbors on the Potomac River near Cobb Island Md.

My deepest sympathies to the family. I attended HPHS Class of 1980 and remember him well. My dad was the Principal for many years and he worked with Mr Bernota. I know he thought the world of him as a teacher and friend.

My condolences to his family. May the family's memories of him keep them in comfort. Matt is/was a great, inquiring soul. I enjoyed our talks at Frederick Community College's "Open Houses", his wit and intellect. A gentleman always.

I am so very sorry about the loss of your dear husband. I pray for your comfort and peace. Very soon God will wipe the tears from our faces and death and sickness will be no more. May you find comfort in that loving assurance. (Revelation 21:4)

Matt and I met in Grad School over 52 years ago, and we have been having 6 or more lunch dates each year. We were both History majors and we both taught High School for 30 + years. In all that time, we always had a great time reviewing our lives and sharing our plans for the future. I will so miss Matt, and our trips to LOU & JOE'S-I feel like I lost a brother.
Matt always spoke of his family and especially, of his wife, Mary Lou. I am so very sorry for your loss.

My condolences to the Bernota family.

I had Mr. Bernota (yes, still "Mr. Bernota" in my '60s) for 11th grade U.S. History back in 1972-1973 at High Point High School. He was a hard, but fair teacher. I remember the party he held at his house at the end of the year where we students performed historical skits (probably for grade).

RIP, sir.

Although I never met him his brother, Vince, is a gem so I suspect Matt was too!

Dear Mary Lou, I am so shocked and so very sorry - just heard about Matt. I only met him once or twice; however, it felt like I knew him for awhile. I remember our conversations at Litton about your family and how nice it was to hear about, Matt, the boys, and your 6 grandchildren. Again, my heart breaks for you.
