Mrs. Ruth Ann Magill Fitzgerald died peacefully at home on May 2, 2018 at the age of 88.

Ruth is survived by her husband of 56 years John Fitzgerald of Boyds, Maryland; her son Sean Fitzgerald of Bethesda, Maryland; her daughter Peggy Vyas of Potomac, Maryland; her son Charles Fitzgerald of Gaithersburg, Maryland; her son-in-law Nimish Vyas, and her granddaughter Keara Vyas.  She is preceded in death by her parents and all five of her siblings.

Ruth was born on June 12, 1929 in East Liverpool, Ohio.  She was the youngest child of Margaret Riley and John Magill. She graduated from East Liverpool High School in 1947. In 1952 she moved to Miami, Florida.  On Easter Sunday in 1961 she met John Fitzgerald, who was living in Cocoa Beach, at a Catholic singles dance.  They were married 8 months later on December 2, 1961 in St. Brendan Catholic Church in Miami.  After the birth of their first child they moved to California, and then Texas before finally settling in Maryland in 1968.  They have lived in Boyds since 1973.

Ruth was a devout Catholic who was very active in St. John Neumann Catholic Church, where she was able to put her love of knitting to good use with the Yarn Angels, a group of dedicated ladies who knit hats for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.

A funeral liturgy is scheduled for Saturday, May 19 at 11:00 am at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Gaithersburg, Maryland.  Interment will follow the mass at All Souls Cemetery in Germantown, Maryland. The repast will be at St. John’s following the burial.

The family would like to thank Alicia Posada, Emmerentia Njock, and Montgomery Hospice for their care and dedication.
