Joseph A. Wolford born October 17, 1948 passed away at his home on April 10, 2019 from natural causes at the age of 70.
He was the son of Alfred Wolford and Hettie Ruth Waddell Wolford Clifford. Joe was born and raised in Montgomery County.
He retired from Barwood cab company.
He played on many adult league softball teams in his younger days and was an avid Washington Redskins fan. He was a well known and respected poker player and played for 25+ years with his friends at the Elks. He also had a passion for horse racing, and was known to win big on occasion.
When he was young he enjoyed playing the drums and dabbled with oil painting. He was also a magician who performed in local venues with his cousin, Roland Ray.
His sense of humor was like no other, His quick wit will be missed. He was loyal to and loved his family. He was never at a loss for a good story growing up the oldest of 6 boys.
He is survived by his brother, Daniel S. Wolford Thomas A. Clifford ( MaryAnn) nieces and nephews: Corey Wolford, Lori Schwegel, Melissa Hawthorne, Stepfani Hendrix, Jami Ferrante Brad Wolford, Daniel Lee Wolford Heather Craig, Collin Clifford Aunt Emma Ray, Sister in laws Martha Hagy, Jill Miles, Rose Wolford and many Cousins and friends that were like family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Wolford, his mother, Hettie Ruth; his wife, Dawn Wolford; his brother, Timothy Clifford; his brother, George Steven Wolford; his brother Herbert Eugene “Buzzy” Wolford; his stepfather, Frank Gilbert “Mike” Clifford; his grandmother, Iva Hottinger Shearer; and his longtime friend and companion, Ann Jordan.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 19, 2019 at 11am at the Roy W. Barber Funeral Home, 21525 Laytonsville Rd., Laytonsville, MD 20882. Interment will follow at Flower Hill Cemetery in Gaithersburg, MD.
