Amanda Leigh Peter, known by most as Mandy, of Columbia, Maryland passed suddenly at the age of 48 on February 29, 2024 surrounded by her family.
She was born June 3, 1975 to Michael & Cynthia Peter, the first of their four children. She will be missed immeasurably by her parents, brothers Nicholas (Joyce) & Benjamin (Lara) and their children, as well as her sister Molly. She is also survived by her paternal grandfather, Joseph Peter (Pappap).
She was extremely loved by her predeceased maternal grandparents Josephine and Leslie Unglesbee (Nana and Da) and paternal grandmother Kathryn Peter (Mammaw).
Mandy grew up in Columbia, Maryland and graduated from Hammond High School. She pursued higher education at the University of Maryland, where she graduated with a master’s degree in special education in 2001. She was a dedicated special education teacher in the Howard County Public School System from 1998 until her passing. Mandy was extraordinarily devoted to her students throughout her 25+ year career, most of her years teaching at Bellows Spring Elementary School.
In her free time, Mandy enjoyed being social with friends and family get-togethers with her siblings, their spouses, her nieces and nephew and large extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins. She will be remembered for her love of game nights, home musical performances, live music, movies, and traveling.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 2pm at Ashton United Methodist Church, 17314 New Hampshire Ave., Ashton, MD 20861.
