Ruth Florence Derrick O’Neale was born July 7, 1924 in Tacoma Park, MD. She lived there with her parents, Florence and Howard, and 3 siblings, Dorothy, Willard, and Warren, until the family moved to the corner of New Hampshire Ave. and Route 108 in Ashton, MD in 1929. She attended Sherwood Elementary and graduated from Sherwood high School in 1942, where she was very active. She worked for the C & P Telephone Company after high school until 1950. On May 24, 1947 she married Stanley D. O’Neale, also a 1942 Sherwood Graduate. They resided all their married life on Old Orchard Rd. Ruth continued to reside there after Stanley’s death in 2000, until she died on May 3, 2017. She had 4 children – Patsy Russell, Bonnie Davis, Dean O’Neale (deceased in 2001), and Rodney O’Neale (deceased in 2014). She went back to work in 1968 for the National Automatic Sprinkler Industries where she retired after 21 years. She also has 8 grandchildren, Melinda Russell Spedden (Matthew), of Wye Mills, MD. Kristin O’Neale McCreary (Andrew) of Stow, Ohio, Brian Russell (Britney) of Rolesville, NC, Jaclyn Davis Burnsky (Paul) of Ashton, MD, Justin O’Neale (Allison), of Coopersburg, PA, Brent Davis (Kristen), of Olney, MD, Stacey and Ryan O’Neale of Silver Spring, MD. She had 5 great-grandchildren, Kellen McCreary, Colton and Chase Burnsky, and Hayden and Asher Russell. She enjoyed retirement, spending winters in Lake Worth, FL and summers on Old Orchard Road and in Deale Beach on the Chesapeake Bay. She was an active member of Ashton United Methodist Church since childhood. She loved her family very much and was an active participant in the life of her children and grandchildren. She lived by her mantra of Faith, Family, and Friends.
